About Me

I am a broadly trained human-environment interactions geographer that researchers the social-environmental components of landscape change. To do this, I use multiple methods to evaluate the interplay between public and private conservation in highly fragmented regions. Using social science methodologies, I aim to understand stakeholders’ perception of conservation policies, practices, and access to these landscapes. Using GIS, I study the impact that these policies and practices have on the landscape. I have used these techniques on a variety of conservation topics that range from understanding local stakeholders' attitudes of ecological restoration, regional freshwater governance, and evaluating federal agricultural policies like conservation compliance on highly erodible land. I have also conducted research on geography education. I hope to expand upon this research as a way to improve geography and environmental pedagogy at the college level.  Click here for more information about my past and ongoing research.

As an educator, I have taught introductory geography and environmental courses in both the online (asynchronous and synchronous) and face-to-face settings. Regardless of the modality, I aim to provide an hands-on learning experience that enables students to use the course material to solve real-world problems. I do this through utilizing open access case studies and web mapping applications that allow students to engage with methods discussed in class.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family, hiking, disc golfing, and canoeing.
